Hearing Aid Specialists
When people have difficulty hearing, the solution is often to amplify sounds. Hearing aids can help, as they operate in a similar way to the human ear. Microphones take sounds from the outside world and convert them into vibrations, followed by electrical impulses, and speakers inside the device helping amplify the sound. Many hearing aids can be calibrated to amplify either high-frequency or low-frequency sounds, depending upon the needs of the patient.
If you think you may need a hearing aid, or you’re seeking to improve your hearing, call Dr. Erik. We can administer tests to determine whether or not you are a candidate for a hearing aid. If yo u qualify, we can fit you with the right hearing aid for you based on your lifestyle and needs!
Types of Hearing Aids We Can Offer
These days, there are a variety of hearing aid options available and you can be recommended one or more type depending on factors such as your level of hearing loss, aesthetic preferences, lifestyle, and budget.

Hearing aids range from tiny aids that fit right in your ear canal to the behind-the-ear hearing aids that most people picture when they hear the term. There are also middle ear implants available thanks to advances in technology.

There really is no “best” hearing aid, as different types of aids will work differently for each person. During a consultation, we will discuss which hearing aid would be best for your individual needs so you can see the most positive results.

Wearing Hearing Aids
There are two main ways to wear hearing aids: behind the ear (BTE) and in the canal (ITC or ITE). The ITC/ICE aids tend to be more powerful, while the BTEs are typically more convenient to wear. Both have their pros and cons.

BTE hearing aids are capable of more amplification, but they are more conspicuous. BTE aids are frequently chosen for younger children because they can accomodate various ear mold types, making it an ideal choice for growing children.

ITC/ITE hearing aids are less visible and easier to handle, but they are also susceptible to more wind noise as well as earwax clogs. All parts of a ITE hearing air are contained in a shell that fills inside the outer part of the ear, often being the most comfortable and effective options for those who don't handle ITC or BTE aids well.

Modern hearing aids can also include processing units that filter out ambient noise, which can benefit individuals who have trouble hearing with a lot of background noise.
